Most MWeb fibre plans include a managed Wi-Fi router on a free-to-use basis - you don't buy it, and MWeb replaces it free if it ever fails.
On a free-to-use router, MWeb supplies and owns the hardware, insures it, and swaps it out at no charge if it develops a fault. That removes the upfront R1 000+ you'd otherwise spend buying a router yourself, and it means firmware and support stay MWeb's responsibility, not yours.
The supplied router handles dual-band Wi-Fi comfortably for a typical home. If you have a larger house or thick walls, you can still add your own mesh system behind it - the MWeb router doesn't lock you in.
What the router does not cover is MWeb's own once-off, and on the entry line that is the larger number. The 5/5 Mbps Uncapped line on FibreSuburb Networks advertises R279/month and carries a R1 248 once-off, so the first twelve months come to R4 596 rather than the R3 348 the monthly price implies - the once-off alone is 4.5x a month's service.
