34% of the 191 636 homes Zoom has passed are actually connected - a meaningfully higher take-up rate than a network still building broad awareness usually sees, and consistent with an operator that builds directly into estates with an existing body-corporate relationship rather than trenching a suburb and hoping residents sign up cold.

Zoom Fibre is open-access, so the network itself never changes - what changes is who bills you, what freebies come with the line, and whether the price is promotional or standard from day one. Three ISPs currently resell Zoom through FastestFibre's tracked catalogue: Webafrica, Afrihost and Mweb. Every price below is the live, current-month rate for each ISP's own Zoom listing, not a first-few-months promo.

Webafrica sells a single tier - 50/50 Mbps at R739 - bundled with a free standard installation and a free Wi-Fi router, plus a 14-day activation guarantee if the line doesn't work as promised. Afrihost runs the fullest ladder, from 50/50 Mbps up to 1000/500 Mbps, with a free Wi-Fi 6 router on most tiers and an R5,000 setup credit on new installs; its own product page notes pricing "tracks closely with Openserve at the same speed." Mweb matches Afrihost's five-tier ladder within roughly R50 a month at every step, and is explicit that its price is the standard rate from day one - no promotional cliff to budget around later - on top of a free-to-use router and a stated R1,723 free setup credit.

Run the numbers per Mbps rather than by sticker price and the ranking shifts at the top end: Afrihost's 1000/500 Mbps Uncapped tier works out cheapest per Mbps overall at R1.45, even though it isn't the cheapest tier in absolute monthly terms. For a household that can commit to R1 447 a month, that's the better value buy; for anyone trying to keep the bill as low as possible in rand terms, Afrihost's 50/50 Mbps Uncapped line at R697 is the actual cheapest entry point onto the network today.

Worked example: two neighbours in the same estate both order 100/100 Mbps - one through Afrihost at R947/month, the other through Mweb at R979/month. Over 24 months that's R22 728 versus R23 496 - a R768 difference for an identical speed on the identical physical line, before factoring in either ISP's own router and setup freebies. On Zoom, the network never explains that gap - the ISP you pick does.

Zoom's pitch is depth over breadth: where it's lit, it's usually symmetrical and directly integrated with the estate's body corporate. Vumatel's pitch is the opposite - the country's largest fibre footprint, with a much wider mix of symmetrical and asymmetrical products across suburbs Zoom has never reached.

Read the footprint numbers carefully: Vumatel's 2 040 231 homes passed is more than ten times Zoom's reach, but that's a national figure against a network that deliberately stays small and estate-focused. The fairer comparison isn't "which network is bigger" - it's "which network is actually lit at this specific address," and for estates where Zoom has already built in, its higher uptake rate suggests residents who get the choice are picking it.

Who should look elsewhere: if your estate isn't on Zoom's list, no amount of ISP comparison changes that - check whichever network actually covers the address first. If your budget is under Zoom's R697 entry tier, a voucher-based product built specifically for that price point will usually beat asking a contract network to go lower. And if you need gigabit-class matched upload rather than the 500Mbps-upload compromise on Zoom's top tier, Frogfoot's fully symmetric 1000/1000 Mbps product is the more honest fit, where it's available.
