    About Webafrica

    Who is Webafrica?

Webafrica is one of South Africa's longest-standing independent Internet Service Providers, founded in Cape Town in 1997. From a tiny dial-up reseller in the early days of South African internet, Webafrica has grown into a household name serving more than 250 000 active fibre, LTE and 5G customers in 2026.

The company is consumer-obsessed in a way most ISPs aren't. Pricing is published openly on the website with no contracts on most products, the WhatsApp support line is staffed by real humans on +27 21 464 9500, and the brand has built a reputation for the lowest install costs in the market - up to R4 800 in free setup on certain fibre orders.

Webafrica isn't a network operator. It buys wholesale capacity from every major South African Fibre Network Operator - Openserve, Vumatel, Frogfoot, Octotel, MetroFibre, Link Africa and Evotel - and resells branded packages to homes and small businesses. That makes Webafrica a true open-access reseller: whichever fibre runs past your house, Webafrica almost certainly has a plan on it.

    Webafrica FAQ

Stuck? We've got the answers to every burning question.

Confused South African woman in white turtleneck shrugging asking questions about Webafrica

Fibre is glass cable into your home - fastest and most stable, but needs a physical install. Fixed LTE and 5G use a SIM in a router and connect over the cellular network - slower than fibre but plug-and-play. WiFi is the wireless signal inside your house from your router. Webafrica sells all three so they can match you to whatever's available at your address.

Yes - Netflix publishes a monthly ISP Speed Index for South Africa and Webafrica has held the #1 position consistently since 2021, ahead of Vodacom, MTN, Afrihost, RSAWeb and every other major ISP. The score measures average prime-time Netflix streaming speed, so it's a real-world reliability metric, not marketing fluff.

No long contracts on most products. Fibre is sold month-to-month - give one calendar month's notice and you're out, no penalties. Fixed LTE and 5G are also month-to-month. The only exceptions are special promo packages where Webafrica throws in extra free months in exchange for a 12-month commitment.

Webafrica is famous for the lowest install costs in the market. Standard fibre installation is free on most networks (worth R2 699), and qualifying orders get up to R4 800 in additional setup credit covering the router, activation and pro-installer call-out. There's typically only a small once-off router delivery fee around R249.

On fibre you get a free dual-band Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi 6 router (depending on package and stock), insured against damage and faults. On fixed LTE and 5G the router is bundled with a SIM pre-loaded for the package. All routers are configured to plug-and-play - Webafrica's installer logs in remotely and provisions everything before they leave.

Yes - if your house is already on Vumatel, Openserve, Frogfoot, Octotel, MetroFibre, Link Africa or Evotel, Webafrica can take over your line on the existing CPE. The migration is usually completed within 24 hours and you keep your CPE and (often) your existing router. Webafrica handles the porting paperwork with your old ISP for free.

No. All Webafrica fibre, LTE and 5G packages are sold uncapped and unshaped. There's no fair-use policy that slows you down after a certain volume of data, and torrents, gaming, streaming and video calls are all treated identically.

Webafrica's preferred support channel is WhatsApp Live Chat on +27 21 464 9500 - save it as a contact, send 'Hi' and a real person responds in minutes. Sales is on +27 21 464 9555. There's also email and a self-service portal in the mobile app, but WhatsApp is overwhelmingly the fastest path to a human.

EarnMore is Webafrica's referral program. Every active customer gets a unique referral code - share it with friends and you both earn account credit when they sign up. Power referrers can fully zero out their monthly internet bill, and there's no cap on how many people you can refer.

Three reasons most customers cite: lower install costs, the Netflix #1 ranking, and the WhatsApp support model. Afrihost has a slicker app and RSAWeb has stronger business support, but Webafrica wins on price-per-megabit on fibre and on speed-of-resolution for everyday support questions.
