Who 100 Mbps is built for

Best for Business, best for power users / sme. Here's where it shines and where it falls short.

    Best for

    • Large families & shared houses
5+ people, all streaming/gaming/working at the same time without anyone slowing anyone else down.
    • Small businesses & home offices
File servers, cloud backups, multi-line VoIP, video conferencing, handles a small office stack comfortably.
    • Power users & creators
Twitch streamers, YouTube creators, photographers, video editors uploading large files daily.
    • Anyone who hates waiting
100 GB game downloads in ~2 hours. Cloud backups in minutes. Big email attachments instant.

    Not for you if

    • You're a single light user, you'll never use it
    • Your address only has asymmetric Openserve (uploads will bottleneck)
    • You're on a budget and you're not running a business, 40 Mbps is enough
    Why choose this tier

    The case for 100 Mbps

    Symmetric on most networks

100/100 Mbps from Vumatel, Frogfoot and Octotel means uploads keep pace with downloads, critical for cloud and creator workflows.

    Future-proof for years

Even as 4K becomes 8K and device counts climb, 100 Mbps holds up for the next 5+ years of household growth.

    Genuine SME-grade

Many small businesses run their entire office on a 100 Mbps residential fibre line, VoIP, file servers, video calls, backups.

    Downloads in minutes, not hours

A 50 GB game takes ~7 minutes. A 4K movie downloads while you're making coffee.

    Best price-per-Mbps

100 Mbps is typically only ~50% more expensive than 40 Mbps for 2.5× the speed, the tier with the best value if you can use it.

    No contention, ever

On 100 Mbps, multiple users hammering the line simultaneously is the only realistic way to feel a slowdown.

    FAQ

    Frequently asked questions

Probably not, unless you're a large household, run a small business from home, or do heavy uploads (Twitch streaming, video editing, cloud backups). For most families, 40 Mbps is enough. 100 Mbps is the tier you buy when you want zero contention, ever.

Yes, most small SA businesses with 5–10 staff run comfortably on a 100 Mbps residential or business fibre line. It handles VoIP, video conferencing, cloud apps, file servers and daily backups without strain.

Symmetric (100/100 Mbps on Vumatel, Frogfoot, Octotel) means upload matches download, critical for cloud sync, video calls and live streaming. Asymmetric (100/50 on most Openserve plans) caps upload at half the download speed, which is fine for streaming but bottlenecks creator workflows.

Typically R899–R1,099/month uncapped on residential plans. Business fibre with SLA and static IP starts around R1,400/month. See the live deals table above for current residential pricing.

Older single-band routers cap around 60–80 Mbps wireless, even on a 100 Mbps line. To get the full speed on Wi-Fi you need a dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (AC) router or newer, Wi-Fi 6 ideal. Most ISPs include a capable router free with 100 Mbps plans.
