    The numbers

What Pretoria fibre costs per network

There are 230 Pretoria plans in the table above, spread across 7 fibre networks. They are not interchangeable: the cheapest way onto Metro Nexus is R299 a month, while the same question on Frogfoot starts at R599. Which networks reach your address is usually decided for you, so the useful comparison is within a network rather than across the whole list.

The last column is the best rand-per-Mbps available anywhere on that network, at any speed — not the unit price of the cheapest line beside it. The two are rarely close, and the gap is the argument against buying on headline price. The entry tier in this segment is R299 for 30 Mbps on Metro Nexus, which is R9.97 per Mbps; the best unit price in the whole segment is R0.70 per Mbps. Paying a little more for a much faster line is usually the better deal; paying the minimum almost never is.

    What you actually payR483/mo avgR5 798R11 738

The first row is the number that gets advertised, and it is the one to ignore. Metro Nexus is discounted from R495 to R299 for the first 2 months, then steps up by R196 a month — a 66% increase on the rate that sold you the line. Over two years that is R11 738 rather than the R7 176 the headline price implies, which works out at R489 a month rather than R299. Budget on the standing rate and treat the discount as a rebate on the first few months. The totals above include the R250 once-off charge this line carries, but not a router you buy outright. Cancellation terms are the other cost that does not appear in a monthly price: no fixed term is not the same as no cancellation fee, and several ISPs here claw back a waived install if you leave inside six or twelve months.

Looking wider than this segment? Compare every fibre deal we track puts the full catalogue in one sortable table, and the cheapest fibre deals ranks the whole market on price and rand-per-Mbps rather than within one network.

A once-off installation or activation charge is paid once, so it weighs on year one and not on year two. Where a line wins on the advertised rate but loses over twelve months, check how long you expect to keep it, and compare on effective monthly cost rather than on the headline. Next: Compare every 200 Mbps deal we track, on every network.

Source: FastestFibre deal tracking, computed from the 230 monthly-billed packages we track. Ranking by advertised monthly price and ranking by what year one actually costs are not the same ordering: 4 of these 10 cheapest-advertised lines fall outside the 10 cheapest to own over 12 months, and 10 change position. The widest gap is RSAweb on Metro Nexus (30/30 Mbps Uncapped), advertised at R299/month but R5 798 over 12 months — R2 210 more than the advertised rate implies. Totals charge the promotional rate for the months it runs, the standing rate thereafter, and the once-off fee where the operator publishes one. 2 packages carry a promotion whose length the operator does not state and are excluded rather than estimated. Monthly-billed packages only; pre-paid passes are priced per pass, not per month, and are excluded from per-month figures. As of 19 October 2026.

    Our verdict

Where a Pretoria line is the right buy, and where it is not

Both sides are computed from the 230 monthly lines we price on Pretoria's 7 networks, so they move when those prices do.

Fibre in Pretoria is the right buy if…

    • Your street is on one of Pretoria's 7 networksWe track live pricing on Metro Nexus, Evotel, Vumatel, Vuma Reach, Openserve, Mitsol and Frogfoot in Pretoria, from RSAweb, MWeb, Vox, Afrihost and Webafrica. That is 230 monthly lines on this page, and which of them you can actually order is decided by the trench outside your door rather than by which ISP you would prefer. If one of those names comes back on a coverage check at your address, every price here is real for you.
    • You are buying on price in PretoriaThe floor here is Metro Nexus 30/30 Mbps uncapped from R299/month via RSAweb. It is a genuine monthly line rather than a pre-paid pass, and it is the cheapest thing anyone sells on a Pretoria network that we hold a verified price for. Read the speed alongside it - the cheapest line in any city is an entry line, not a small discount on a fast one.
    • You want a mainstream 100 Mbps line, not an entry one7 of Pretoria's networks carry a 100 Mbps-or-faster line, and the price range between them is the thing worth knowing: Vumatel starts at R449 via RSAweb, Mitsol at R827 via Afrihost - 1.8x for the same headline speed. The tier most households should shop is this one, and in Pretoria the network that reached your street matters more to the bill than the ISP you pick on it.
    • You upload as much as you download134 of the 230 monthly lines in Pretoria are symmetrical - 58% of them - so a matched upload is readily available here if you work from home, back up off-site or stream out. Filter the table on it rather than assuming the fast lines are the symmetrical ones; they are not the same question.

    Who should look elsewhere

    • Your address has no fibre yetEvery price on this page assumes one of these 7 networks has already reached your street, and in Pretoria that is street-by-street rather than suburb-by-suburb. Check coverage at the exact address before you shortlist anything. If nothing comes back, this page cannot help you and fixed-wireless or LTE is the comparison to run instead.
    • You are shopping off a national "from" priceThe cheapest fibre line we track anywhere in South Africa is R279 on FibreSuburb Networks, via MWeb - and FibreSuburb Networks is not in Pretoria. The real Pretoria floor is R299, R20 a month more. A national "from R279" headline is not wrong, it is just not an offer at your address, and that gap is the single most common reason a quote comes back higher than expected.
    • The network you have been reading about is not in PretoriaOctotel, Metro Nova, Comtel Fibre and Balwin Fibre appear on our other city pages but do not carry a line we can price in Pretoria, and 4 further networks do not either. Coverage is per-operator and per-street, so a package you saw recommended nationally may simply have no footprint here. Shortlist on what a coverage check returns for your address, not on a brand.
    • You want a gigabit on an entry-line budgetThe cheapest gigabit line we hold a verified Pretoria price for is Vumatel 1000/250 Mbps uncapped from R699/month via RSAweb - 2.3x the Pretoria floor of R299. No amount of comparing closes that: it is a different product rather than a better deal on the same one. If the budget is the constraint, the 100 Mbps tier is where to spend it.

    Networks

    Pretoria fibre networks

Pretoria has the second-densest fibre competition in Gauteng after Joburg - most suburbs have at least two FNOs lit, with deep specialist coverage in Centurion and the eastern suburbs.

    Openserve (Telkom)

South Africa's largest fibre network with mature Pretoria coverage from Hatfield and Brooklyn through to Centurion and Montana.

    Vumatel

Strong residential footprint across Waterkloof, Lynnwood, Faerie Glen, Garsfontein, Moreleta Park and Centurion estates.

    Frogfoot

Open-access FNO with growing PTA coverage - residential and small-business areas of Centurion, Hatfield and Pretoria East.

    MetroFibre Networx

Symmetrical fibre with deep Pretoria rollout in newer suburbs and lifestyle estates - low contention, predictable speeds.

    Evotel

Gauteng-focused FNO with strong Pretoria estate coverage - low latency, ideal for gaming and remote work.

    Mitsol

Estate-specialist FNO covering selected gated communities and residential estates around Pretoria.

    Suburbs

    Fibre by Pretoria suburb

    Hatfield & Brooklyn

Mature Openserve and Vumatel coverage, and the student heart of the city - month-to-month terms matter more here than headline speed. Entry lines across the metro start at R299/month.

    Waterkloof & Lynnwood

Premium Vumatel and MetroFibre footprint. Symmetrical lines up to 1 Gbps for executive households.

    Centurion

Heavy Vumatel, Frogfoot and Openserve overlap. Strong choice for Centurion Lake, Eldoraigne and Wierda Park.

    Moreleta Park & Garsfontein

Vumatel-led residential fibre with Openserve fallback. Most addresses have at least two FNOs lit.

    Faerie Glen & Equestria

Vumatel and Evotel deep coverage, and symmetrical 100 Mbps is the popular sweet spot here - cheapest at R449/month (Vumatel via RSAweb).

    Montana & Wonderboom

Openserve dominant with Frogfoot and MetroFibre rolling out. Good entry-level pricing.

    The jacaranda city

    Why Pretoria loves fibre

Pretoria is South Africa's administrative capital and home to roughly 2.5 million people across the City of Tshwane metro. With a deep public-sector workforce, three major universities (UP, TUT, UNISA) and a thriving tech corridor in Centurion, demand for reliable, low-latency fibre is among the highest in the country.

The good news: every major open-access FNO has invested heavily in Pretoria. Vumatel leads residential coverage in the eastern suburbs, Openserve underpins the entire metro as the wholesale fallback, and MetroFibre, Frogfoot, Evotel and Mitsol fill in the gaps with symmetrical lines and estate-grade infrastructure.

    FAQ

    Pretoria fibre questions

The cheapest line is Metro Nexus 30/30 Mbps uncapped from R299/month via RSAweb - a genuine entry tier, so read the speed alongside the price. For a heavier household the best-value mainstream line is symmetrical 100 Mbps at R449/month (Vumatel via RSAweb). Sort the table above by price per Mbps for the value ranking rather than the price ranking.

Openserve, Vumatel, Frogfoot, MetroFibre, Evotel and Mitsol all have meaningful Pretoria coverage. Openserve has the widest reach, Vumatel the strongest residential footprint, MetroFibre the deepest symmetrical lines.

Yes - Centurion has some of the best fibre overlap in Gauteng. Vumatel, Openserve, Frogfoot and MetroFibre all cover large chunks of Centurion. Most addresses have two or more FNOs to choose from.

Prioritise a month-to-month term over speed - you want to be able to walk away at the end of the academic year. The cheapest line in the metro is Metro Nexus 30/30 Mbps uncapped from R299/month via RSAweb. For a sharing household, symmetrical 50 Mbps at R449/month (Vumatel via RSAweb) splits better across several people.

Residential plans top out at 1 Gbps, cheapest at R699/month (Vumatel 1000/250 Mbps via RSAweb). Most Pretoria households are well served by 50-200 Mbps. Note that gigabit lines are frequently asymmetrical, so check the upload column rather than assuming it matches the download.

It depends on the ISP and the network rather than on Pretoria. Many packages include standard installation, but not all - some carry a published once-off charge, and on a few networks that runs into four figures. The table above shows the published once-off per package where the operator states one, and our 12- and 24-month cost columns include it. Where no figure is published we leave it blank rather than assuming it is free.

Yes - Mitsol, Evotel and MetroFibre specialise in lifestyle estates around Pretoria. Many Centurion, Moreleta Park and Faerie Glen estates have dedicated FNO infrastructure with symmetrical lines.
