MWeb WiFi deals
MWeb is one of South Africa's longest-running ISPs, founded in 1997. Their 'WiFi deals' are uncapped fibre packages bundled with a free WiFi router, available on every major fibre network in SA.

MWeb WiFi deals 2026
MWeb sells uncapped fibre packages on every major SA network, Openserve, Vumatel, Frogfoot, Octotel, MetroFibre and Zoom. The line cost is set by the fibre network operator (FNO); MWeb adds its own service margin, the router, and (usually) free installation. Pricing is broadly the same across networks at the same speed tier, choose by what's available at your address.
- 10 Mbps uncapped: from R467/month
- 25 Mbps uncapped: from R617/month
- 50 Mbps uncapped: from R767/month
- 100 Mbps uncapped: from R867/month
- 200 Mbps uncapped: from R1 067/month
- 1 Gbps uncapped: from R1 467/month
All MWeb packages are fully uncapped and unshaped, no fair-use throttling and no traffic prioritisation against streaming or gaming. See live offers on our MWeb fibre page.
Why pick MWeb WiFi?
MWeb has been around long enough that most South Africans either had a MWeb dial-up account in the 2000s or know someone who did. The brand still leans on that heritage, but the substance is in the modern offering:
- Free WiFi router on 24-month contracts (typically a dual-band AC router, gigabit ports).
- Local SA support, call centre is genuinely Cape Town-based, not offshore.
- No setup fee on most 24-month deals; standard installation included.
- Uncapped & unshaped, no fair-use throttling or peak-hour shaping.
- Static IP add-on from around R49/month, handy for remote work, NAS, security cameras.
- Email hosting included, a yourname@mweb.co.za inbox if you still want one.
- MWeb Connect, bundled mobile data SIM available as an add-on for backup connectivity.
MWeb vs Webafrica vs Afrihost
MWeb sits in the mid-tier on price, usually R30–R80 above Afrihost or Webafrica at the same speed, but with a stronger reputation for support quality. If you've been bitten by overseas call centres or long ticket queues, MWeb is the safer pick.
Quick comparison at the popular 100 Mbps Vuma tier:
- Webafrica 100 Mbps Vuma: ~R867/month, leanest pricing, app-first support.
- Afrihost 100 Mbps Vuma: ~R867/month, strong client zone, ticket-based support.
- MWeb 100 Mbps Vuma: ~R867–R899/month, phone support, free router.
- RSAweb 100 Mbps Vuma: ~R899/month, premium routing, voice/TV bundles.
If you value being able to phone a human in South African business hours, MWeb wins. If you live in your phone and want app-first self-service, Webafrica or Afrihost are more natural picks. Compare side-by-side on our best fibre ISP in South Africa ranking.
What speed do I actually need?
The most expensive MWeb mistake is overbuying speed. Internet bandwidth is like lanes on a highway, once you have enough lanes for the cars on your road, adding more doesn't make the cars faster. Use this as a sense check:
- 1–2 people, light browsing & HD streaming: 25 Mbps. R617/month is plenty.
- Family of 4, streaming & school: 50–100 Mbps. The sweet spot for most SA homes.
- Heavy gaming, 4K Netflix, work-from-home with video calls: 200 Mbps. Headroom for simultaneous loads.
- Power user / smart home / multiple 4K streams / large file uploads: 500 Mbps – 1 Gbps. Mostly relevant if you upload a lot, symmetrical Vuma Core or Frogfoot is best.
If you're unsure, start one tier above what you think you need on a month-to-month plan, then downgrade after 2 months if you never max it out. MWeb lets you change speed tiers without a re-installation.
Which network should I run MWeb on?
MWeb is reseller-agnostic, the experience inside the home is identical regardless of which FNO carries the line. Pick by what's at your address and what costs least:
- Vumatel: best for Joburg suburbs and most middle-class neighbourhoods. Symmetrical Vuma Core gives equal upload/download.
- Openserve: widest national footprint. Strongest in Pretoria, smaller towns and Telkom-legacy areas.
- Frogfoot: excellent latency, popular for gamers. Strong in Cape Town and lifestyle estates.
- Octotel: Cape Town–first network, well-priced gigabit.
- MetroFibre: Gauteng, KZN and growing, well-priced mid-tier.
- Zoom Fibre: KZN coastal and Free State inland.

MWeb installation & what to expect
Once you've signed up online or by phone, MWeb books an FNO technician to do the physical install (drilling the wall, mounting the ONT, terminating the fibre). MWeb then provisions the line and ships the router.
- Lead time: 5–10 working days from sign-up to live in most areas.
- Install fee: free on 24-month contracts; around R1 595 once-off on month-to-month.
- Router: shipped free on contract. Couriered separately.
- Activation: typically same day the technician finishes, your router will pull config and connect automatically.
- What you need: someone over 18 at home during the 4-hour install window, ID copy, proof of address.
